This unit is centered on the receptive skills of reading and listening. As reading allows for a permanent visual representation of the information, as opposed to listening, reading is favored above listening. Both receptive lesson plans have issues that need to be considered, such as, students focusing on words, sentence length, structure, flow of information, speed of speech, and accent of speaker. There are important precursors to manage before giving such lessons. Pre-teaching some crucial vocabulary, selecting appropriate text, selecting a good topic, and creating interest for that topic are necessary considerations for your lesson plan. It is important to understand that creating interest in your students' minds on whatever topic you are planning to teach is the most vital aspect of a good receptive lesson.
