Although there are a lot of rules to how the parts of speech function and are used, they are paramount to the comprehension process of how to form and understand a basic English sentence. While some parts of speech are easier to show (such as adverbs to verbs and adjectives to nouns), other parts of speech take more time to fully grasp and teach (such as the exceptions of some plurals when explaining comparative and superlative adjectives). The biggest takeaway from this unit for me is realizing that I instinctively know the rules of English grammar, but it becomes another thing entirely when trying to explain the more nuanced rules. I will need to consistently review this section, as a solid understanding of grammar will make me a better English teacher.
