I have learnt from this unit that there are 4 language skills - passive skills: reading and listening, and active skills: writing and speaking. The passive skills require comprehension of the text or dialogue, and when teaching, the teacher should ensure that the students have an interest and are motivated to learn by having engage phase activities, pre-teaching vocabulary and language structures, choosing topics that are of students' interest, selecting texts appropriate to the students' level and the objective of the lesson (whether it is for comprehension of a topic or as a tool to learn key words), and selecting study and activate phase tasks that aid comprehension.
