This unit has taught me about the 7 different forms of future tenses - future simple, future continuous, future perfect, future perfect continuous, present simple, present continuous, and 'going to' future. Each tense is used to convey different (occasionally similar) nuances. For example, the future simple tense is used for promises, future facts, predictions not based on present evidence, spontaneous actions, threats, and speculations. The future continuous tense is used for ongoing action happening at a point of time in the future, predictions based on present evidence, polite enquiries, and fixed future events (which is similar to future simple's use for future facts but less forceful in tone). The future perfect tense is used for completed actions by a point of time in the future, the future perfect continuous tense is used when talking about the length of time an action has happened by a point of time in the future, present simple tense is used for impersonal uses such as schedules and formal situations, the present continuous tense is used for plans (which is similar with the future continuous tense's uses for definite future events). The 'going + infinitive verb' future form is used for plans, intentions and predictions, and it is often confused with future simple tense. Activities for reinforcing the future tenses would involve diaries or questions that ask about an imaginary future.
