From this unit we observed the various lesson materials and course books that can be used when teaching in addition to preparing a lesson. There are two types of course materials that teachers can utilize in their lesson plans; authentic materials (which would include magazines and newspapers) and created materials (teacher created materials for supplementation). It is up to the teacher to carefully select these materials and to determine how to best utilize them in their lessons. The use of a course book in teaching can provide many advantages such as providing a tried and tested lesson plans and a syllabus that is graded to the level suitable for students. This is, however, not without it's disadvantages as a course book can often become predictable and boring for students and a teacher may come too dependent thus becoming lazy on their part of teaching a lesson. One of the best ways to utilize a course book in lesson planning is to supplement your own material to material that you might find unnecessary for your class lesson or adapt or replace it so that it does meet your lesson objectives.
