This unit was useful in giving an example lesson plan and worksheets that include the Engage/Study/Activate phases. I would like to try out the animal lesson plan with a small group of beginner students. The plan outlines the class level, expected learner outcomes, timing, interaction and phases each task is related to. It starts out with brainstorming animal vocab, then discussing where we can see the animals, and what they can do. Then the grammar/pronunciation point CAN and CAN'T is introduced and students do a fill in the blank activity. They learn verbs of movement through mime and drilling. Finally, in small groups, they create a fantasy animal (after teacher demonstrates theirs). Students finally introduce their animals. If there's time, they can do another activity where they pull animal word cards out of a hat and explain what they can/can't do. Other students have to guess what the animal is. I often script lessons, so it would be useful for me to get in the habit of structuring lesson plans to include the essentials (learner objectives, personal aims, language points, teaching aids, anticipated problems, procedure, phrases, time, interaction TS/SS, class level, no. of students, date/time, other teacher's names). This seems like a lot, but it will help me focus on the most important part of the lesson, and in the future I would like to not rely on so many notes. What I do feel is missing from these notes are useful phrases (like: Please look up. Tell me. I'll give you ___ minutes.) or any relevant gestures that would be helpful and good to reinforce.
