This unit describes the different types of tests you can use in the classroom. It also shows other ways of evaluating students' levels and progress.
I support the "evaluation by the students" approach. In the end I believe ( especially with teaching English to foreigners) that you are hired by the students. Focusing on grammar while 90% just want to practice spoken English, is a waste for both parties. This approach motivates the teacher to check if both parties are still on the same page. It also forces the teacher to stay present, flexible and alert. As a former English student myself, this is something I always appreciated in a teacher.
