Those students who do not live in an English speaking country cannot get the same exposure to the language as those who do. That is why, teachers try to apply different methods and techniques in order to minimize artificiality in class and create a natural environment which is similar to how we learnt L1. It is wrong to say this or that method is the best one. A teacher's task is to be as much flexible and creative as possible trying to combine different techniques where students can get a crucial amount of information from their teacher, "digest" this information and then have an opportunity to use it, which results in speaking accurately and fluently. I believe that one of the most effective methods which can be applied( as far as I use it as well) is ESA which can be always modified to the students' needs. But the only thing that should never be changed is that a teacher starts with the Engage phase, that is an attempt to arouse the students' interest and attention, and the Activate phase where students can demonstrate their old and new knowledge and allow some creativity. In addition to that, one more thing that should not be out of our sight is using the correction techniques right. That is to understand when a teacher needs to correct a student or a student needs to correct himself, which stage of correcting mistakes/errors is appropriate, how to find a happy balance between praising and correcting. Plus, a teacher should not forget to be evaluated as well, which means that his students should give their feedbacks and suggestions about the lesson they had.
