This unit dealt with EFL Methodology, mistakes and feedback. It began by presenting nine different teaching methods with a brief description of each. Then it gave an introduction into the ESA method, meaning Engage, Study, and Activate. It also talked about the importance of eliciting information from students (and presented various methods for doing so) in order to prevent too much teacher talk time, and to encourage students to speak English, using the vocabulary they know. It went on to detail the three stages of ESA and three patterns that are often used in giving the lessons ("straight arrow", "boomerang" and "patchwork"). Following that, it presented various activities to use in the engage phase, others to use in the study phase, and others for the activate phase. It also presented different correction techniques and what to correct. It concluded by giving some general guidance notes on lesson planning.
