This unit covered discussion of the use of course materials and course books. There was a discussion the difference between authentic and created materials. Authentic materials are original source such as a movie or a newspaper article. Created material is something tailored specifically for the study of English language such as a workbook from a text book publisher or a self designed gap fill exercise by the teacher. there was considerable discussion about the use of textbooks and commercially pre-prepared materials.
I have already begun scheming about materials that I could create myself tailored for students in the small Vietnamese town where I plan to be teaching. So clearly I lean towards adding to any created materials & textbooks.
