This unit is about parts of speech . Starting with nouns; they can be for people, animals, or place. Such as Micheal, horse and park. There are different kinds of nouns. We have common nouns like chair, proper nouns such as Micheal, abstract nouns like beauty, compound nouns such as supermarket and we also have collective nouns like team. The nouns can be singular like a pen and can be plural like pens . to pluralize a noun, we add s for some nouns when it ends in ch, sh, s, or x, we usually add es. When the noun ends in y preceded by a consonant, we change the y to I then we add es. Nouns end in f the f is usually becomes v then es like scarves. There are exceptions of course. Nouns are also divided into countable such as pen and uncountable such as sugar. Nouns can be described by adjectives and these adjectives usually go before a noun for example a tall white man. Another part of speech is comparative and superlative. When the judgment is between two people or things, it is called comparative such as Micheal is taller that Jennifer but Jennifer is more generous than Micheal. If the judgment is about more than two, then it’s superlative. For example among the students Micheal is the tallest and the most handsome. There are two kinds of articles. Definite like the and indefinite like a or an. Another part of speech is verb. Verbs can be actions or states, and can be transitive and intransitive. Transitive like I hit him. Intransitive like I slept. There are different forms of verbs, base form , past simple, past participle and present participle. The verbs are also divided into regular as travel and irregular as go. There are also auxiliary verbs; do, have and be. Some other parts of speech are adverbs such as usually, soon, now, ect. , gerunds like going, pronouns; there different types of pronouns. and there prepositions and conjunctions.
