This unit focused on how to arrange classrooms, encourage participation, and manage problem behaviors in a classroom. Things like eye-contact, teacher position, group work, individual work, pair work, and teacher attitude, can all help establish rapport and maintain discipline in the classroom. And when properly understood, can help to encourage student talk time. Each classroom arrangement and group/pair/individual setting are largely dependent on the group of students, the school rules, and the desired outcome. There is therefore no best, cookie cutter option. Rather there are tools to implemented based on the teachers’ understanding of the current class situation.
