It is nice to see the qualities of a teacher and the types of students and their motivations broken out into distinct categories. Having done a little bit of volunteer work and a little bit of English teaching I think that I understood all of these things intuitively. However for pedagogical purposes, it is useful to begin to categorize in particular needs and abilities of various types of students. Since I plan to be working with a lot of young learners I was paying the most attention to these caregories.
One thing that I felt was missing from this unit is a brief discussion of empathy among teachers. I think that ultimately teachers are motivated to give and watch their students grow because they have human empathy and enjoy giving to others. Without a great deal of empathy, teachers are i effective.
