This unit discusses the pros and cons of the usage of books and materials in the classroom. There are two types of material, which are Authentic and Created materials. Authentic materials are anything a native speaker can read or hear. They are real and therefore more interesting and motivating. Created materials on the other are usually designed by the teacher to substitute or supplement materials from a course book. Course books consist of a set of materials such as; student book, workbook, cassettes, teacher's book, e.t.c. It provides a tried and tested syllabus which makes it easier for student to absorb the lessons but it does not always fit the specific needs and interests of all the class members.
