This unit is about what makes a good teacher and what makes a good student. A good teach is kind, patient, enjoys teaching, is lively, engages students, boosts motivation, and is able to give correction without offending her students. She knows her classes language ability and age group and crafts her lessons accordingly. She is able to step into appropriate roles at appropriate times, and can easily and effortlessly shift between those roles throughout the class. A good student listens well, asks questions, experiments with the language, accepts correction, and is motivated to learn.
What I am learning is that there is not necessarily a black and white, right and wrong way to teach, because each student and each class is different. It sounds like it takes as much flexibility and willingness to learn on the part of the teach as it does on the part of the student.
