I have learned that it is important to make sure that all of the vocabulary being taught is taught in an appropriate context so that students can internalize that and be able to recall that vocabulary in the right setting. That is one of the ways that language cannot to its fullest capacity be taught through reading solely. The social aspect of language is embedded in the necessity of the function so it's important to relay that in a structured environment like a classroom.
