In this unit I became familiarized with the many different external tests that English learners may take in order to be accepted into an English-speaking college or university, to be considered for a position where English is the language of communication, or for many other reasons. In my own teaching practice, I try to include a variety of test styles as a way to both test different things with my students, as well as to cater to students who may better express their knowledge in different ways. For example, as a way to test how well they understand a concept, I might sometimes do a traditional, multiple choice exam, while other times I might use a more artistic method of assessment, like having students create posters that demonstrate their understanding of the concept. It seems, from what I have learned in this unit as well as previous units of this TEFL course, that providing some variety in the way students are assessed can be very valuable and helpful for both the students and the teachers.
