The productive skills of writing and speaking are just as important as the receptive skills of reading and listening. Accuracy in language relates to having a good understanding of how grammar and punctuation works, as well as pronunciation and a good grasp of vocabulary. Fluency on the other hand allows students to be creative with their new language and is less concerned with technical errors. It is best to stress accuracy before the fluency phase of the lesson to ensure that when being creative, students are using accurate vocabulary and grammar. Games are a good way to allow student interaction and decrease teacher talk time.
