I certainly agree that course books’ frequency of being outdated is an issue. I am concerned that students would not take a book seriously if they noticed cultural markers in the course book’s lessons that place the book in the 80s, for example. I would certainly take this issue into account when teaching from a course book…to the extent that I may skip chapters from the book and write my own lessons on the same topics if the chapters are just too outdated.
