The relationships between students and teachers is crucial for learning. Having said that, going in depth about the various different roles of a teacher taught me that certain situations call for different roles. As having previous experience as teacher in a foreign country, I know how easy it can be to fold into one specific role which can affect learning and development, but I had known about the different roles and strategies covered in this unit before I started teaching, my students could have had a more learning-positive environment facilitated by me, the teacher, from the first day. In addition, learning the customs or culture of the country you will be teaching in is also important because it will allow the teacher to better connect with the students. It is not necessarily a concept that I learned from the unit, however approaching adult students for business English courses may contain its own microcosm of separate cultural rules that would not apply for children, which is a concept the unit helped illustrate to me.
