Overall I have learned about teaching and learning in this unit, specifically what makes good teachers and good learners and conversely what might be the signs of a poor teacher or a demotivated learner. This unit also highlighted some of the differences between adult and young learners and gave examples of how to approach each age group with a rubric for what language proficiency levels can be expected at each stage. I was particularly interested in the differences between Asian and western approaches to learning with the students in the East being more comfortable with the 'sage on the stage' approach of didactic teaching and less comfortable with the problem based creative learning styles which are more common in the west. This is a cultural difference and perhaps the greatest learning for me in this unit is to respect and work with a variety of cultural traditions ensuring that you adapt your teaching styles to the learners.
