This unit covered how what types of materials teachers can use in their classroom to engage their students. If they choose to use authentic materials such as a radio program, a poem, a song etc, students are likely to be more motivated to conquer it and it may help to develop confidence due to its authentic nature. These materials cannot be graded to the level of the students. On the other hand teachers can use created materials for a more purposeful and specific needs of students and the lessons. Teachers often also have coursebooks available to them that help to guide the lesson. There are pros(organization, progression, confidence for students and teachers) and cons (predictability, not specific to needs of students) so its important for a teacher to be critical of any coursebook they use.
