This unit focuses on what constitutes “good” teachers and students, the different roles teachers play and language levels of learners.
The content in this unit provided me with insight about the different expectations and roles I need to prepare myself for. Being motivational, patient and responsible when learning about my students strengths and weaknesses will help me form relationships with my students, that can encourage learning. Teaching involves many different roles such as organizing, managing and participating in the classroom. Each role is called upon according to the circumstances of the class. Understanding the language levels of individuals and groups can be a useful tool when adjusting ones approach to teaching. If the children have a beginner level of English then visuals and participation may be the best way to engage the students. If they have an upper intermediate level of understanding, then facilitating and tutoring may be a good way to promote self learning for the student.
