This unit provided many great tips on classroom management in regards to dynamics and atmosphere of the classroom. One method I've learn from the unit is the arrangement of the classroom and how it effects the class. For example, circles and horseshoe arrangement enables the teacher to maintain easier eye contact amongst the students and allows for easier group activities. Whereas, orderly rows is mostly suitable for classes with more than 25 students. Additionally, it should be use more so for lectures. Before reading this unit, I didn't account for how writing on the board and giving instructions at the same time isn't conducive to student learning or following instructions. It is better to face students while giving directions. I learned most from the discipline section of the unit. There are many reasons for a student to misbehave. This may include family issues, low self-esteem, boredom, class size, peer pressure and lack of respect. When addressing an issue, it's important to act immediately but address the behavior rather than the individual. Never shout or lose temper. These are important lessons I've learned that will prove invaluable when teaching in the future.
