This unit offers different theories on teaching ESL, breaking them down into each component. The structure of the course then accumulates some of these theories into 3 basic principles of teaching -- engage, study, activate. More depth is given to these 3 applications including, for instance, games that can be played during the activate section. Finally, they touch upon the more useful and sensitive ways to give feedback and correction. I find this the most interesting because the students were children when the first learned their own language, and now as adults they find themselves in a new situation which renders them vulnerable and almost helpless and one needs to keep this in mind. I find that when I praise my students in my volunteer class, I also need to find a way to get that across to them that they are doing well without dong it as if they were children.
