The focus of this unit was on teaching vocabulary and grammar functions. Highlighted were the important elements in teaching vocabulary and grammar, such as relevance, pronunciation, meaning, and difficulty level in teaching. The unit opened up by comparing the grammar of the English language as the tree trunk and branches, and the vocabulary as the leaves. These are two concepts that complement each other. Within this unit, provided were examples of ESA patterns helping with the teaching of vocabulary and grammar functions. The examples of ESA patterns is very useful for me because it is a glimpse of the teaching in action. It is easy to say that today we will learn vocabulary about a house. But, there are so many possibilities that it may feel overwhelming at first. Seeing examples of discussions and activities for the class helps to form concrete ideas in your mind about how these concepts can be taught.
