There are several approaches to teaching language, but not necessarily one best methodology. In general, students should be given as much exposure to the language as possible, with some input from the teacher, and students should be encouraged to discover language for themselves. Learners can be effective when given a variety of learning possibilities (not focusing exclusively on one method) and when stress and anxiety can be minimized. These factors are brought together by three elements--Engage, Study, and Activate. Engaging requires the teacher arousing the students' interest and inviting them to get involved with the lesson. The study stage includes activities where students will focus on the language and how it is constructed. Activate activities are for students to use the language they know and are learning. Correction during the lesson should differentiate between errors and mistakes, and corrections should ideally be made by self-correction or student-to-student correction. Praise and encouragement is at least as important as correction, possibly moreso.
