Evaluation and testing is essential in understanding if the students picked up on the material learned in class. There are many tests as mentioned in the unit to measure this metric. However, they're are test even at the beginning of a class to measure not material learned from class but what skills and knowledge students are already know. This type of test is called diagnostic tests. Furthermore, placement tests measures the English skills of a student and appropriately measures their skill level and places them in the correct course. Progress test measures student knowledge throughout the class. External tests are exams that students take to measure proficiency for certifications. For example, if students who learned English as a second language and wants to study abroad in an English speaking university, they might be interested in taking the TOEFL. This one of the many exams many US universities require for students who don't speak English as a native language.
