The biggest take away from this unit is being able to know when each past tense form is being used. Being a native English speaker, I barely think about sentence construction in that way. Past simple tense explains a past action in a given time, when time is being asked, when an action occurs without a definite time. For past continuous tense, the past action was interrupted, a gradual change without a specific time, to show an action that began before that time and could continue beyond, or descriptions. Past perfect tense describes an action that occurred before another action. Whereas the past perfect continuous describe an action that have been continuously been taking place before another action.
