This was a useful unit because it went over the details of classroom management in terms of style of speech, use of voice and gestures, organization of the classroom, and disciplinary measures. A lot of what was written about gestures, voice and so on were details that some people "feel" naturally when talking to others. That is, some people automatically know what to say to make everyone feel included, and how to keep a whole group occupied and paying attention at once. Not everyone knows, though, and I feel that even though I have pretty good instincts in social situations, it is useful to have things spelled out. I was also happy to read about the advantages and disadvantages of group work, individual work and so on, and I recognized some of those from my experience as a learner of languages (As a kid, I was often the one who answered all the questions and talked over my shy classmates. . . but work in pairs and small groups stopped me from doing that!). This unit seems like the bread and butter of running a class smoothly, and I think it will be helpful in the long run.
