Authentic materials can be useful in helping more advanced students build confidence with the language. Seeing and hearing authentic materials and being able to demonstrate how much you understand can help to encourage and reinforce speaking and writing in the same way. A course book can be an invaluable tool in the classroom and can help to provide structure to lessons but it should not be the only source for lesson material. A good teacher should be able to use the course book to help supplement lesson plans designed specifically for the class they are teaching.
