This unit covered two topics, Conditionals and Reported Speech. Conditionals are sentences that contain two clauses the "if" clause (the condition that needs to be satisified) and the main clause (the consequence of meeting the condition of the "if" clause). There are five conditionals that the unit covers: Zero conditional (actions and facts that are irrefutable). First conditional (a possible/probable consequence once the corresponding condition is met). Second conditional (a present or future hypothetical situation). Third conditional (a hypothetical past action/consequence). Mixed conditional (a combination of a second and third conditional). Typical student errors and teaching ideas for conditionals are reviewed. Reported (or indirect) speech is when a person recaps a one person a conversation they had with another person. Reported speech can be communicated in the present or past tense, depending on the particular situation. When communicating reported speech the verb tense, pronouns used and time expressions may need to be modified depending on the context.
