I learned the different modals and how to teach them. I could say that this can be challenging grammar for the teacher, especially the students because there are lots of different modals, and many of them have multiple meanings. It was a great help that this unit taught me some tips for teaching this grammar and making it easier for my future students. I also learned the phrasal verbs which were my challenges part in grammar aside from tenses. I learned the three basic types of phrasal verbs (intransitive, transitive separable and transitive inseparable). This topic also taught me about the active (the subject is the doers of the action) and passive voices (the action is the receiver of the action). Some teachers I know said that the passive voice should always be avoided, but this unit made me realized, it was not true. Of course, it is not good to use the passive voice too much especially in writing, but it is perfectly acceptable to use it – especially in these four situations (which this unit taught me): when we don't know who did the action, when the person who does the action is people in general, when the person who does the action is obvious or unimportant, and when we want to give more emphasis to the receiver of the action than to the doer. I also believe that teaching the students to create sentences in active and passive voices is very essential for their writing and speaking skills. I got one more opportunity in this unit, that is to practice the lessons by answering the given task sheets at the end of this lesson.
