Even though writing and speaking are concidered as productive language skills, they have a number of differences and that is why a teacher should use different methods to teach them to students. Teachers may tend to neglect writing activities unwilling to waste class hours for quiet time even though writing skills are important and difficult to obtain. On the other hand shy students can be more confident in doing writing assighments while active students might be bored with writing and willing to do free speaking activities. To keep lessons well-balanced there should be time for both writing and speaking tasks.
