This unit covers some parts of grammar. Foremost, we see the use of modal auxiliary verbs. They are used before other verbs to add meaning to the main verb. Examples are; can, could, may, might, shall, should, will, would, must, have to, have got to, need to, needn’t and ought to. They are used to express the following; obligation, possibility/probability, permission/prohibition, ability and advice. They are followed by the verb in its base form. They don’t change in form according to person. Teaching ideas can be; role play, rules and signs. The second one is passive and active voice.in the active voice, we focus on the agent. The passive voice is frequently used when it is not known, not important or we don’t want to say exactly who performs the action. Only transitive verbs are used in the passive. Form is-auxiliary verb ‘be’+ past participle. Teaching ideas are; cutting up varied active or passive sentences and getting students matching them. Furthermore, we have seen relative clauses. A clause is a group of words containing a subject and a verb. There are three categories; Independent, dependent and relative clause. Finally, this unit covers phrasal verbs. These consist of a verb plus one or two particles. They operate as one item. There are three basic types of phrasal verbs; intransitive, transitive separable and transitive inseparable. I have learnt that I should keep track of the phrasal verbs that have been taught and try to use them naturally during uncontrolled practice I have learnt to use commas very well in non-defining clauses, a comma is put before the relative pronoun and at the end of the clause.
