Unit 2 provided an overview of the parts of speech. There are 5 main types of nouns: common, proper, compound, abstract, and complex. Nouns can also be categorized as countable or uncountable. Adjectives describe nouns. There are also comparative and superlative adjectives to specify comparisons. Articles can be definite or indefinite. Verbs describe actions, and they can be classified as transitive or intransitive. Verbs have various verb forms, and many verbs are irregular and don’t always follow the rules for creating different verb forms. Adverbs add meaning or information to verbs. There are five main types: manner, place, time, degree, and frequency. Gerunds are the -ing form of a verb that allows it to be treated as a noun. Pronouns take the place of nouns and are classified as personal, possessive, reflexive, or relative. Prepositions show relationship between nouns and other words. Conjunctions join words or groups.
