This lesson covered how to teach the productive skills of language which includes reading and writing. Since I have been trying to learn French, I could identify with the students. I also find that speaking is easier that writing, it allows for more spontaneity and less concern with mistakes. Speaking is more informal than writing. I remember having debates in a French class, but I also remember doing creative writing. In the same class we wrote children's stories and poems. For encouragement, the teacher commented as much on creativity and imagination as on punctuation. Since this was an adult ed class no grades were given. It was a hard homework assignment but we ended up having fun with it, reading our stories aloud to each other. When we read them aloud, we read them with the teacher's corrections so we did not pass on our mistakes to others. And since we were on the same level, we were being read something we could all understand.
