This unit covered classroom management. The importance of eye contact, gestures and differing tone of voice were highlighted. How to use students' names effectively was discussed. Various student setups (Whole class grouping, pair-work, group-work) were described including the pros and cons for each. Physical classroom arrangement (orderly rows, horseshoes, separate tables) as well as teacher position was discussed. Tips for writing on the board (so as to minimize class time disruption) and for giving effective instructions were also highlighted. The importance of establishing rapport, both between teacher and student and among students was discussed. Finally, the unit talked about discipline issues and how to effectively handle any issues that may arise.
