This unit detailed the present simple, present continuous, present perfect, and present perfect continuous tenses. For a native speaker, these tenses come naturally based upon what we are speaking about. As mentioned in the introduction, English has many more tense variations and rules than some other languages. I am currently learning Japanese, which is not easy, though when learning about tenses in compared to English, I can see the difficulty foreign learners may have. It is very common for beginner and even intermediate English students to struggle with these tenses, I notice this when speaking with my foreign friends. During conversation, I can understand what they are saying even when incorrect. I believe that this type of grammar is best learned through repetition and practice. Students who can say "I go to the store", will need to adjust this based on when and how frequent they perform this action. There is a lot of room for error on this subject, an example even with present simple "I go to the store" is quite easy, though depending on the pronoun used this can change, "He goes to the store". Depending on the language of the student, these small nuances may be quite difficult. After reviewing this lesson it's clear that I will need to spend more time reviewing multiple approaches to effectively teach tenses.
