The parts of speech explain how a word is used in a sentence. Most of the parts of speech can be divided into sub-classes or types. Each of them has their own important role to form a sentence structure. Nouns are used as naming words and can be classified into many types such as common, proper, compound, abstract, collective, countable and uncountable. There are also some exceptions to consider in its pluralities. Pronouns are used to replace a noun in a sentence to avoid repetition and can be divided into personal, possessive, reflective and relative types. Adjectives describe, modify or give more information about a noun or a pronoun. It is also used to comparison in a comparative or superlative degree. A Verb shows an action or state of being. It is a very important part of speech as the subject needs a verb to form a basic sentence structure. Verbs are either transitive that is followed by, and needs an object to form a sentence or intransitive which can stands alone. Verbs have four principal forms; the base form, past simple, past participle and present participle. Their uses depend on how the verb type is, if it is regular or irregular verbs. Adverbs describe or modify verb, adjective or another adverb. It tells how, where, when, how often or to what extent and can be used depending on how the adverb is used in types of manner, place, time, degree and frequency. A preposition shows the relationship of a noun or pronoun to another word. They can indicate time, place, or relationship. Conjunctions on the other hand, join words, phrases and clauses in a sentence. Understanding the different parts of speech is important in understanding how words can and should be joined together to make sentences that are both grammatically correct and readable.
