Unit 3 introduced new theories and methodologies which taught me a little about the history of how teaching English as a Foreign Language has progressed. From these different approaches the most effective teaching methods have been analyzed and summarized so as to help new teachers learn what is most important. For example, how much exposure students need, how much input teachers need to give, the limitations of communicative tasks, advice about classroom stress levels, and so on. The chapter focussed a lot on ENGAGE, STUDY, ACTIVATE and its variations. Numerous useful elicitation techniques were thoughtfully explained, study activities were laid out clearly and concisely, and the activate strategies were easy to comprehend. Chapter 3 is a very useful reference guide as to how to plan out a lesson properly and professionally. Many games and study ideas are described here. Feedback was also touched upon and useful correction tips given including explaining the difference between an error and a mistake, what a teacher should correct, and perhaps even more importantly - when a teacher should make corrections. The appendix of chapter 3 laid out clearly lesson planning and general guidance do's and don'ts so as to provide a clear structure of how to professionally plan out effective lesson plans.
