This was a great precursor to day one in the classroom. The first day is a warm up and introduction session. It is important to build rapport with students and that begins the moment they walk in the door. This lesson contained some good ideas on warm up/ice breakers for the first day in the class room with all levels of students. I like the pass the ball activity, although I will be with young learners and am adapting it to musical chairs for my age group. The student without a chair needs to introduce themselves. There is also good information about using, or in this case, not using native language. In my case I don't speak the native language at all, but I will have an assistant in the room that does. I plan to communicate to them the importance to them of English only in the English room. If they translate the instructions to my students, it would be the equivalent of me giving them answers to a test in their classroom. But also, if multiple children don't understand, it is a sign I need to change my instructions to better suit the class.
