This unit is a detailed summary of the Past Tenses in the English language. It focuses on structure of the four past tenses: Past Simple, Past Continuous, Past Perfect and the Past Perfect Continuous, as well as their usage and teaching methods.
I find the areas that students tend to struggle with is the irregular verb conjugations as well as understanding and usage of the past perfect continuous form. It may be a good idea to summarize and print out some commonly used irregular verbs for the students to look over and even try to memorize before the lesson so that during the activate stage of the class, no valuable speaking time is wasted by trying to figure out the proper conjugations. And because students typically find the perfect and perfect continuous forms to be a bit more confusing than the previous two, since some languages do not have similar ways of expression, it would be helpful to spend more time during the studying and activate stages encouraging students to create sentences and speak using these tenses.
