This unit discusses course books and lesson materials. It compares created materials and authentic materials, their advantages and disadvantages as well as some samples and how they can be adapted. It also compares different course books, and how the teacher can analyze and choose from them to aid specific classroom situations. Fortunately for today’s teachers there are many materials to choose from, and the internet has become a very convenient place to find new ways to add to a lesson, but this also adds to the teacher’s responsibilities in making sure that the material stays on track with the lesson and reinforces students’ understanding of the language point at hand, and does not act as a mere entertainment method to attract interest. No matter how good the materials are, balance needs to be attained to ensure productivity.
