Unit 20 gives us feedback that a teacher may encounter in his/her ESL career.This unit summarizes how to start new course,career for an ESL teacher,dealing with large classes,reluctant students,multi-level classes etc.A teacher may start either with new group or existing group in a school,these classes are vital for buildings rapport.The teacher should also find students levels of language,their need/aspiration with English and plan future lessons in opening classes.For these purposes,the teacher may arrange a number of activities,like questionnaires or surveying,board game,pass the ball game with less uses of course books,grammatical practice etc. For warming the class,teachers may have a number of activities,like the hangman,tongue twister,pictionary and memory games.A difficult point for a teacher is large classroom.In this case,the teacher also may have few solutions which are making work sheets,arranging pair/group work and leaders,choral repetition,dynamic classroom etc.Another problematic point is using native language by the students.Teachers should progress lessons with English as much as possible.Students may feel reluctant at any stage of lesson.Teachers then may use plenty of work,role-play,use a tap recorder or controlled practice are good ideas to overcome the issue.Finally comes students listening problems.Teachers generally try to skip the issue but good teacher should repeat the listening extracts as many times unless all individuals understood the topic.
