This particular course unit has been rather interesting for - Theories, Methods and Techniques for teaching an ESL class. I really have appreciated the Engage Study Activate format so much. The other methods presented are not bad. But then I also would not put aside the Grammar-Translation method though there is need to expose learners to more natural language flow. I think that when students have that translation, it could be a good basis to build on further. It depends however on the the students level. For very little kids, a none use of L1 in class could be much helpful. But older ones who may want to quickly some language expressions for everyday living, the Grammar-Translation could still be an added on approach to learning any new language. I find the examples on each stage so informative. Provides for all kinds of student groups. I cannot wait to practice using the examples in class and becoming perfect at them.
