Unit thirteen gives information about pronunciation, phonology and how to teach them properly. Reading through this chapter made me more aware of the importance of intonation—the rise, fall and flat levels of a sentence—and how it can affect the overall mood and request a certain type of response. In addition, I learned that stress placed on certain words can affect how a sentence is interpreted by the listener. The International Phonetic Alphabet and the activities paired with it in this worksheet were very insightful. It’s interesting to see how words would look if they were spelled how they sounded.
