The unit covered a number of issues relevant to classroom management, including seating arrangements, behavior and discipline, establishing rapport, giving instructions and writing on the board, using eye contact and student names, etc. Also discussed was how a teacher could group students for various activities individually, in pairs or in larger groups and what effect this will have on the classroom and possible activities. The unit also covered a few points about the delicate relationship between student talking time and teacher talking time, certainly one of the most important elements to master in a language class. A lot of what is discussed in this unit is what the teacher can do, without the students even necessarily being aware or being a part of the process, but what the teacher can do preemptively or at the level of classroom management, to make sure the class runs smoothly, without disturbance, and adheres to the tasks in question.
