This unit describes reading and listening receptive skills and how these skills are used - for a purpose or for entertainment. We also have different ways of reading or listening to something - and more often than not in my opinion we do this without thinking. For example skimming through a text if you are looking for specific information or half listen to the news if you only want to focus on something in particular and don't pay the same attention to the other information given. The unit also focuses on the important things to keep in mind when choosing a text for a lesson depending on the level of the students and trying to choose a topic that will capture their attention. When you know your students and have smaller groups this is easier, it obviously becomes more complicated with bigger groups but you can cover different topics over time to keep everyone interested.
