This section gave great insight into the approaches to teaching English and other foreign languages to non-native speakers. I appreciate the history lesson and it was interesting to see how as we learned more about psychology our techniques for teaching evolved. ESA incorporates principals from past techniques, particularly in the Engage phase. I see correlation to Audio-lingualism with the emphasis on drills to learn vocabulary and pronunciation. Suggestopedia is useful for the use of music to engage the brain, which I think is especially helpful with small children who enjoy learning through music, even their own language. There's even something interesting about the silent method for helping with languages like Mandarin where they use characters instead of an alphabet. Using the colored rods in that system could make learning the complex Chinese pronunciations helpful
